China is the leading sender of international students. In 2011, the number of international students in the U.S. increased to a record high of 723,277 students, a 32% increase since 2000. China tops the list, accounting for 21.8% of total international students. 157,558 students from China were studying in the United States, up 23% from the previous year.

  • Traditionally Chinese has seen education as the most important thing for their children. They are willing to spend money on it.
  • Chinese view U.S. education as world class and are also attracted by the benefits of living in U.S. after obtaining a degree.
  • Middle class is emerging in China and more people can afford tuition for studying abroad.
